The "Hold Me Back!" Mac 3 on 3 tournament is being held on November 4, 2017 in an effort to remember a beautiful, young, multi-sport athlete...Macayla Lee Kohn. She was killed in a single person car accident on October 28, 2016 at the age of 16. She was a junior in High School and played 3 sports....Volleyball, basketball, and softball. At the age of 5, Macayla started playing basketball at the YMCA and was hooked from the start. She played for several years following, including participating on both school and travel teams, attended various basketball camps including PGC Camp and had a passion for the game. Her family formed the "Macayla Lee Kohn Scholarship Fund" that is in process of becoming a non-profit. The scholarship will provide 2-3 senior Caledonia High School graduates scholarship money every year to help them pay for their continuing education in college. The Macayla Lee Kohn Scholarship fund was able to provide $1500 to 3 students in the graduating class of 2017, 9 students from the graduating class of 2018 and 10 students from the graduating class of 2019.
This 3 on 3 tournament will be an annual fundraiser to help keep the scholarship going for years and years to come. In addition, it is a way to remember Macayla and the impact she had on her teammates and the game of basketball. It is a time to have fun, be with friends and work as a team....to lift each other up, encourage each other, get better at the game, and just appreciate being alive! While we will have winners, trophies, brackets, etc. we want to have this tournament be one, not just about winning, but also a way to bring everyone together for a common good purpose. Currently students in grades 3-12 will participate but eventually our goal will be to open it up to other age groups if there is enough of a response in the future.
