About the "Hold Me Back!" Mac
The "Hold Me Back!" Mac started in 2017 as a 3 v 3 basketball tournament to remember a beautiful, young, multi-sport athlete...Macayla Lee Kohn. Macayla was killed in a single person car accident on October 28, 2016 at the age of 16. She was a junior at Caledonia High School and played 3 sports....Volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her family formed the "Macayla Lee Kohn Scholarship” to award 2-3 Caledonia High School Graduates every year to help them pay for their continuing education in college. The 3 on 3 tournament was the annual fundraiser that helped keep the scholarship going so giving can be done for many years to come. It ran from 2017 until 2022 and has provided over $27,000 so far in scholarship money.
While this has been a great way to honor Macayla and her favorite sport, the Kohn family feels it is time to shift gears. We are changing the Annual “Hold Me Back!” Mac from a basketball tournament to a golf outing as they can’t help but wonder what she would be doing now. It is important for us to keep her memory alive by hosting an event we believe she would be participating in today. Although the sport changes, the purpose and cause stays the same. It is a time to have fun, be with friends and work as a team....to lift each other up, encourage each other, get better at the game, and just appreciate being alive!
