MACAYLA LEE KOHN
Macayla Lee Kohn was born in Grand Rapids, MI on June 19, 2000. She died in a fatal single person car accident on October 28, 2016 at the age of 16. Macayla was a junior attending Caledonia High School and was the first born of three girls.
At an early age, Macayla’s athletic ability was very apparent. She played multiple sports……soccer, softball, basketball, and volleyball; she enjoyed every single one of them. While her skills of the sports were apparent, she is more remembered for being a great teammate and making people laugh. She is remembered for her drive, perseverance, grit, and that beautiful smile. She was a fierce competitor who never gave up and played her heart out every time she hit the court or field. After graduation in 2018, she wanted to further her education and potentially become a lawyer.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
The "Hold Me Back!" Mac 3 on 3 tournament is to remember a beautiful, young, multi-sport athlete...Macayla Lee Kohn. Macayla was killed in a single person car accident on October 28, 2016 at the age of 16. She was a junior at Caledonia High School and played 3 sports....Volleyball, basketball, and softball. Her family formed the "Macayla Lee Kohn Scholarship Fund" to provide scholarships to 2-3 Caledonia High School Graduates every year to help them pay for their continuing education in college.
This 3 on 3 tournament will be an annual fundraiser to help keep the scholarship going for years and years to come. In addition, it is a way to remember Macayla and the impact she had on her teammates and the game of basketball. It is a time to have fun, be with friends and work as a team....to lift each other up, encourage each other, get better at the game, and just appreciate being alive!
